Process

At Denise King Landscape Designs, we strive to integrate your aesthetic priorities into a plan that solves the functional challenges of your property — with a design that complements the style and character of your home or site, raises the value of your property, and makes it an enjoyable place to spend time. We use a 4-step process:

Landscape Consultation
We begin with a site visit to assess your needs and gather information about how you would like to use and maintain your outdoor space. As we tour the property together, we share insights and ideas to help define the aesthetic style or feeling you would like to create — and then combine these goals with our recommendations into a proposal for design services. For smaller projects, we may simply outline on-site services we can provide and present a timeframe by which we will complete the project. Clients often have us consult with their architect, contractor or builder, prior to project construction, on issues of sighting a structure, grading, retaining walls, walks/drive locations, decks and patios, as well as plantings and materials.

Site Analysis
For projects requiring a Master Plan or a more comprehensive detailed plan, we schedule a return visit to measure, photograph, obtain soil samples, and observe and document existing conditions. This helps us determine the best approach for designing and installing a successful landscape — one that will grow and flourish in your specific environment.

Development of Preliminary Plans
Integrating information from our initial consultation and the site analysis, we create concept plans for your landscape project, including uses for adjacent space, circulation through the property, and aesthetic character. Then we meet with you to review the preliminary plans and gain additional input from you to aid in the final design.

Final Plan Design
Following your review, the concept plans are developed into a final plan, along with a plant list specifying quantities and sizes, and locations for landscape features. For such elements as patios, walkways or walls, construction notes & drawings are also provided.
